Poverty kept Baanvi from going to school—until we met her

For many girls in India, poverty restricts them from a good education. Baanvi* used to be one of those girls.

Baanvi’s parents make their living by picking rags off the streets—a job that together earned them 200 INR per day. Because of their extreme poverty, Baanvi grew up without proper clothes, food, or housing. By the time we first met her at 7 years old, Baanvi still had not been to a single day of school.

But look at her now! She is a bright, excited student who wants to become a teacher one day. Our aftercare program, funded by you, allowed her to be enrolled in a private school where she is now thriving!
