Anjana’s* mother was planning to marry her off as a child—just like she did to Anjana’s older sisters at ages 13 and 14. Anjana wasn’t enrolled in school, even though she longed to continue her education. Anjana’s family had her working in the fields and as a maid in order to lessen her financial strain on their family. Her family detested her and wanted her out of their lives.
